Chapter VI (Summary of Findings, Conclusion and Recommendations)

CHAPTER VI
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
The study conducted showed that the respondents, which are first year students of the University of the Philippines Cebu, lived both on-campus and off-campus. There are about sixty-five percent of the total student respondents lived off-campus (i.e. dorm, boarding house, apartment, and home), while the remaining thirty-five percent of the respondents lived on-campus, specifically on the university dorm. Around ninety percent of the students live with their co-students, relative, or the whole family. The people that the students live with could either distract or encourage them. The remaining ten percent of the students live alone.
In assessing the physical condition of the students’ residence, 73.75% of the students are comfortable with their residence physical condition. Majority of the students’ residence affected their study habits positively. From that, it means that the students can study properly and comfortable in their current residence. In considering the other factors, which are technologies, 75% of the students chose internet as their number one distraction in their study habits.
Regarding the living condition of the student’s residence in relation to their study habits, 45% says that they are satisfied with their residence. From the 45%, the students are contented with their respected residence in relation to their study habits. When asked about the size of room that the students want for studying, 65% of them chose either a big or a small room. The living condition of the students also includes the people that they live with. There are 90% of the students get distracted by the people that they live with while 10% lives alone. Despite the distraction, 100% of the students, those students that live with someone, say that the people they live with encourage them.

CONCLUSION
Based on the study made by the researchers, the result shows that the students’ residences could give an effect to their study habits either positively or negatively. There were also factors of the residence that were considered in this study. These factors are the people they live with, physical condition of the residence (ventilation, space, lighting, and distance), and technologies. The factors could give the students a positive effect through gaining encouragements from the people they live with, from getting help in doing researches and getting more information through the internet, and making them feel comfortable with the physical condition of their residence. The factors could also give negative effects to students because some of these factors could distract the students in their study habits.
The effect of the on-campus and off-campus living environment of the students in this study turned out to be assuring that the students’ residences can affect their study habits either positively or negatively. In such findings, the researchers conclude that the students’ residences and its factors could affect the students’ study habits both in a positive and negative way.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the findings of this study, the researchers made three recommendations, for the parents of the students, the students and for future related studies.
Firstly, for the parents of the students, they need to choose appropriate residences for their children and consider the different factors that could affect their children’s study habits. They need to put into consideration the living environment, the physical condition like the ventilation, space, lighting, and distance, the people they live with should also be considered in choosing the residence because these factors are likely to affect the student’s study habits. Secondly, to the students, they have to know the right living environment for them that fit their way of life. They also have to know their limitations specially the things that could affect their study habits. To the students who are of a distance to the university, they should know how to balance things up most specially their time. Lastly, for future studies, the researchers should consider a larger range of respondents to get more accurate data and to be more specific in asking respondents about their living environments. If the researchers wouldn’t have more number of respondents and couldn’t give more specific questions, the data of the study may result to a varied and insufficient outcome.
