Chapter IV (Methodology)

CHAPTER IV
METHODOLOGY
Research Design
The Explanatory method is used in this research supported by the questionnaires given. The explanatory method is concerned with the reasons of why things occur. The explanatory method would explain the relationships among the variables that the researchers used. The researchers used this method to explain the impact of the student’s residence on his or her study habits.
Sampling Procedure
Non-probability convenient sampling is used by the researchers to collect enough information from the students who are accessible at the time when the researchers performed the data gathering. The Non-probability convenient sampling is where the respondents are selected of their accessibility when the researchers conducted the data.
Respondents
The students from University of the Philippines Cebu who were randomly selected are the respondents who gave the researchers the information about their study habits in relation to their residence. Sample size would be 20 students.

Research Instruments
In gathering the information from the students, a questionnaire was used to identify the students’ study habits base on their residence while attending at University of the Philippines Cebu as freshmen. The questions are closed-ended to make the researcher and the respondents comfortable. Each part of the questionnaire comprises questions. Each question has answer choices, in which the respondents will just choose the answer from the set of given answers.
The questionnaire has five parts; these parts are: (I) the student’s living environment, (II) the people that the student live with, (III) the assessment of the physical condition of the residence, (IV) other factors that would affect their study habits, and (V) the living condition of the student and the student’s study habits.
Part (I) of the questionnaire is about the current residence of the student. Part (II) determines who and how many people the student live with. Part (III) evaluates the physical condition of the student’s residence. Part (IV) clarifies some factors that would affect the student’s study habits. And part (V) deals with the student’s study habits.
Data Collection
In gathering the data, the researchers gathered the inputs from the sample students during the time when the researchers’ conducted the study with the help of the questionnaires given. The resident types of the student were also described through answering the questionnaire.

Data Analysis
A quantitative approach will be use by the researchers in analyzing the data.  The data from Part (III) to Part (V) will be identified quantitatively, through examining the relationship between the condition of the student’s living environment and the student’s study habits. Part (I) and Part (II) will be identified qualitatively in determining the student’s current residence and the people they live with. The information given by the respondents would then be recorded and analyzed.

The data gathered from the questionnaire will be collected and organized through the outline stated above.
